In 1945 when the Second World War ended, Doug Chalmers returned home to Canada and began a career with Imperial Oil delivering heating oil throughout Toronto, and later gasoline to various parts of Southern Ontario.

In 1962, after realizing that his scope as a driver for the company was limited, he applied for and was appointed the Esso Sales Agent in Maple, Ontario. He was responsible for selling, servicing and delivering heating oil, gasoline, and diesel fuels to homes, farms and businesses within the confines of the old Township of Vaughan. Chalmers Fuels was born!
Doug and his wife Peg Chalmers started the business in the basement of their home with a new tanker delivery truck, a beat up old pick up truck and a handful of customers. Despite their limited resources, no order was too small, no customer too unimportant to deal with and no request for fuel or service ever went unanswered.

By 1969, Doug and Peg were finally able to offer their son Ron a job with a future. Ron started delivering fuel to the now hundreds of Chalmers Fuels customers, all the time being groomed to manage the business. Ron continued the tradition of building the business, changing the customer offerings as customer demands and expectations changed, introducing efficiencies to provide even better service and out pacing all his competitors.

In 1981, Nick Brouwer was hired into the Chalmers Fuels business as a fuel truck driver. After 6 years of hard work and long hours, Nick was promoted to a dispatch position at the new and now permanent home of Chalmers Fuels in Georgetown, ON.

By 1988, Nick became operations manager and proceeded to a partnership position with Ron Chalmers in 1992. Purchases of the North Wellington, Perth and Grey agencies provided a second home base in Teviotdale, ON allowing Chalmers Fuels to become the largest reseller in all of Ontario. Nick and his family currently reside in North Wellington.

In 1996, Mark Nebel, a career Imperial Oil Limited manager, joined the firm as a partner.

Today, both Chalmers Fuels office locations are overseen and managed by Nick Brouwer and Mark Nebel.
